Synergy insights inform Breast Cancer Now report highlighting need for improved referral pathways for secondary breast cancer

Synergy is pleased to have worked with Breast Cancer Now to conduct two waves of research since 2022 amongst GPs and Practice nurses to understand how early diagnosis rates of secondary breast cancer can be improved by exploring barriers to referral in primary care.

The first wave of research in 2022 was highly commended at the 2023 BHBIA BOBI awards in the Best Patient Centric Approach category.

The most recent wave of research focused upon use barriers to use the Non-Specific Symptom pathway, which could be better utilised to improve the referral of potential secondary breast cancer patients.

These insights have fed into Breast Cancer Now’s recent report ‘Clearing the Path to Diagnosis’ which makes a number of recommendations to NICE, NHS England and other stakeholders.
